Experimental evaluation of the embolic potential of paclitaxel eluting stents

      Recent studies showed that paclitaxel eluting stents improved the patency of the treated lower limb arteries. The embolization of paclitaxel crystals was highlighted with the use of certain active balloons and raised interrogations as for the harmlessness of these devices. The objective of this study was to compare the potential embolic risk of the two paclitaxel eluting stents available on the market: Eluvia® (Boston Scientific, USA) and Zilver PTX® (Cook Medical, USA) in an experimental model.
